Arc Flash Studies

About Arc Flash Risk Assessments

Arc flash risk assessments are required to be performed for any electrical distribution equipment that may be worked on while energized. In the United States, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) can and does cite companies who do not provide protection for their employees against arc flash hazards. Although the OSHA 1910 standard does not specifically define all the procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for a sufficient arc flash safety program, it does recognize the NFPA 70E standard as the best practices for implementation of a comprehensive electrical safety program.

Triad Consulting Engineers, Inc. is qualified to provide the electrical engineering analysis necessary to ensure compliance with the latest arc flash requirements.  All our work is performed and certified by a licensed Professional Engineer to ensure strict conformance to NFPA, OSHA, and local code requirements. We currently maintain active SKM databases for power system and arc flash analyses for numerous banks, data centers, refineries, and pharmaceutical companies around the country.

An arc flash risk assessment from Triad Consulting Engineers, Inc. includes the following:

  • One-line diagram review for existing electrical system

  • Conduct an onsite visual inspection and data collection

  • Develop up to date one-line diagrams

  • Perform a complete short circuit study

  • Perform a coordination study

  • Perform an arc flash risk assessment

  • Deliver signed and sealed engineering report with all drawings, calculations and recommendations

  • Apply arc flash warning labels to all electrical equipment

Arc Flash Training

An arc flash hazard analysis only protects personnel that understand the hazard and how to properly protect themselves. Quite often even experienced electricians and maintenance personnel are not familiar with the hazards of an arc flash incident and the rapidly evolving standards. Proper safety training is key to ensuring that personnel can properly recognize hazards and protect themselves from arc flash.

We offer a 1-hour arc flash awareness training and a 4-hour qualified personnel training, in which specific study results for your facility are incorporated.

Let us assist you in ensuring that your facility complies with all local regulations and current safety requirements.
